Operation of the forming machine

The workpiece is installed on a rigid box shaped workbench in front of the machine. The height of the workbench can be adjusted to fit the workpiece, and the workbench can move laterally under the reciprocating tool installed on the slider. The movement of the workbench can be manually controlled, but is usually propelled by an automatic feed mechanism acting on the feed screw. The plunger slides back and forth above the workpiece. At the front end of the plunger is a vertical tool slider that can be adjusted to either side of the vertical plane along the travel axis. The tool slide is equipped with a clapper box and a tool holder, from which the tool can be positioned to cut a straight plane at the top of the workpiece. The tool slider allows for downward feeding of the tool to deepen the cutting. This flexibility, combined with the use of specialized tools and tool holders, enables operators to cut both internal and external gears.
The plunger can be adjusted for stroke, and due to the geometric shape of the connecting rod, it moves faster in the return (non cutting) stroke than in the forward cutting stroke. The return stroke is controlled by a fast return mechanism.
